Purpose of the Program
The course prepare students to understand the biblical and theological foundations of christian marriage; integrate the ethical and legal aspects of christian marriage with principles and practice of counselling; prepare students to ethically counsel individuals, couples, and families from a biblical perspective with a view to preserve the sanctity of christian marriage .
Learning Objectives
Demonstrate competence and knowledge of human psychology; behavior of individual family
members, couples and how relationships within the family are affected by behaviour of an
individual.
Demonstrate adequate knowledge and understanding of various aspects of the counseling skills
and various levels of care that can be used to resolve conflict, create healthy boundaries and
improve communication among family members.
Demonstrate sufficient understanding of family law; spiritual, emotional and physical
relationships in marriage, ethical codes for Christian marriage and family counseling.
Demonstrate ability to counsel, empathise and aid the couple and the family when stressed by lack
of communication and other factors.
Demonstrate ability to assess cases and create a safe and non-judgmental environment where
clients can explore their thoughts, feelings, and experiences and develop coping skills for their
challenges.
Demonstrate ability to carry out research and publish findings that may be of value in the field of
Christian marriage and family counseling.

Admissions Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in theology, pastoral theology, pastoral studies or related discipline with a second class upper division obtained from a university or institution accredited by the applicant country’s ministry of education and all necessary regulatory authorities. Candidates with less certification can also apply and will be accessed on merit.
